Why am I running for office?
My vision of Alberta is a province where local communities have the ability to make decisions without getting tied up in a large, centralized bureaucracy. It’s a key philosophy, but what does it mean in practice? There is no better example of how that principle would guide my decisions than our health care system. Our super-board has turned into a super bureaucracy. Local doctors and local health care workers have to go through a long chain of command to get decisions, and the health of our patients suffers. The province should set the standards so that all Albertans have the same access to a quality medical care. But it should be up to the people who know the needs best — the local doctors and health care workers — to decide the best way to deliver those services. That’s how the principle of local community decision-making would apply in practice to the choices made in a Wildrose government. It is rooted in the belief that we can trust Albertans to make the right choices; choices that take into account the uniqueness of each neighbourhood.Let us create a government that puts trust in its citizens, a government that is transparent and ethical, a government that supports community empowerment. For more information about Wilrose policies, visit Wildrose.ca.
